Mental Health Wellness Expo: Auburn Drive High School

Auburn Drive High School invited CCATCM to their Mental Health Awareness Expo on March 5, 2019. Five students and one staff member attended the event where they did a presentation to a group of over 20 students about acupuncture and how it can help with mental health, treating mental illnesses and assisting with ADHD. CCATCM students also did some demonstration on acupuncture and fire cupping while providing a few students with some mini acupressure massage treatments.

Wellness Wednesday: Nova Scotia Works

Nova Scotia Works had CCATCM visit their Cole Harbour location on Feb. 27, 2019 to do a presentation on the benefits of acupuncture, acupressure massage and fire cupping. One staff and four students went to the employment centre and did some demonstrations in acupuncture and fire cupping while providing staff with some mini treatments in acupressure massage. Staff at the employment centre found it very informative and have invited us to come back at a future date to do Wellness Wednesday at other locations.

Mi'kmaq Childhood Development Centre

The Mi'kmaq Childhood Development Centre had CCATCM attend their Parent Night on Feb. 6, 2019. Two staff members and six students were on hand providing mini treatments in acupuncture, acupressure massage and fire cupping. The parent night is an event that starts with a drumming circle, while MCDC provides dinner and childcare for children, one night during the month. The parents have an opportunity to get together, have dinner and socialize with one another downstairs. Our students were able to provide treatments to 20 people and MCDC staff.

Sipekne’katik First Nation: PCC Career Fair

The Sipekne’katik First Nation: PCC Career Fair on February 6^th was brilliant. Joseph Gower came up to represent CCATCM and he also provided some mini treatments of acupressure massage for community members.Everyone was so welcoming and friendly and there were lots of opportunities for chatting. Also, it was very interesting to hear conversations about some connections between their many healing practices and TCM practices. Thank you also to Desiree Grantmyre and the team from the Mi'kmaq Employment Training Secretariat for arranging a hearty Subway lunch for all of us. Hoping we can visit again soon.
